Claude Landry was elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in the September 18, 2006, provincial election as the Progressive Conservative member representing the electoral district of Tracadie-Sheila.
During the 56th Legislature, he was a member of the Standing Committees on Estimates and the Standing Committee on Law Amendments. He was the official Opposition critic for areas of interest related to the fields of health and education.
He was re-elected to the 57th Legislature in the provincial election held September 27, 2010. He is a member of the Standing Committee on Legislative Officers and the Standing Committee on Procedure.
He is a Deputy Speaker of the House.
He was named Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development November 5, 2010.
He was born on April 29, 1955, in Tracadie. His parents, Bernadette and Emile Landry, had eight children. Claude has a twin brother, Paul.
He graduated from Polyvalente W.-A. Losier in Tracadie in 1973.
He obtained a diploma of health sciences degree from the Université de Moncton in 1976 and his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Université de Montréal in 1982.
He practised as a dentist in Tracadie-Sheila from 1982 to 1991 and in Neguac from 1991 to 2001.
He was a member of the Tracadie-Sheila municipal council from 1992 to 1995. He served as a member of the board of several organizations: Jeux de l’Acadie as chef de mission for the Grand Falls games in 1992; the Musée historique de Tracadie; the comité sauvegarde de l’hôpital de Tracadie, and as a member of the Coopérative funéraire la Colombe.
From 2001 to 2006 Mr. Landry was the executive assistant to the Minister of Health and Wellness, Elvy Robichaud.
