Bruce Northrup was elected to the 56th Legislature in the September 18, 2006, provincial election as the Progressive Conservative member representing the electoral district of Kings East. He served as official Opposition critic for issues relating to energy and NB Power, and he was the critic for interests related to the Department of Natural Resources. He was the official Opposition whip.
He was re-elected to the 57th Legislature in the provincial election held September 27, 2010. He was sworn in as a member of the Executive council and appointed Minister of Natural Resources October 12, 2010.
He was born in Sussex in 1955 and has lived there most of his life. He is married to Kim (Lewis) and they have two adult children: Jessica and Brad.
Mr. Northrup has been actively involved in the community with various charities and sports activities. He has coached minor hockey, baseball and soccer. He coached the New Brunswick Canada Games Hockey Team in 1983. He coached Sussex-Kennebecasis Valley Subway Rangers and, in the spring of 2006, they won the Atlantic Midget Minor AAA Championship.
He is past president of Sussex Minor Hockey and past vice-president of the Sussex area Children's Wish Foundation. He was a co-chair of the Sussex-area Relay for Life. He was a Sussex town councillor from 1986 to 1989, and he is a member of the Sussex Rotary Club. Mr. Northrup has also participated in international 350 day activities.
