Progressive Conservative MLA Bruce Fitch is a graduate of Moncton High School and he furthered his studies at Mount Allison University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in biology.
After working several years in the insurance industry, he joined Scotia Bank. He ended his banking career as a full-service broker with ScotiaMcLeod.
His political career began in 1989 when he was elected as a councillor for Ward 2 in Riverview. He was mayor from 1998 to 2001. During his tenure on council, he focused on initiatives relating to increased building activity, employment, maintaining a high level of programs and services, promoting Riverview as a great place to live, and building positive working relationships with other municipalities.
Mr. Fitch was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in the June 9, 2003, provincial election. He was sworn in as Minister of Energy on June 27, 2003. He was appointed Minister of Justice and Consumer Affairs on February 14, 2006.
He was re-elected to the 56th legislature in the September 18, 2006, provincial election. He was the official Opposition critic for areas of interest relating to finance, the Office of the Comptroller, the New Brunswick Securities Commission, the New Brunswick Investment Management Corporation, the Office of the Auditor General and the Office of Self-Sufficiency. He was a member of the Standing Committee on Crown corporations.
He was re-elected to the 57th Legislature in the provincial election held September 27, 2010.
He is a member of the First Baptist Church. His hobbies include sailboarding and golf. An ardent fan and supporter of minor sports, he is frequently seen on the sidelines of his children’s games. He coached minor soccer and football in the past.
He has been serving his community for many years as a member of a variety of boards, including Codiac Regional Police Board, Lakeview Manor Senior Citizens Home and the Atlantic Baptist University.
The son of Dr. Ralph and Jessie Fitch, Fitch was born and raised in Moncton before moving to Riverview in 1982. He and his wife, Nancy, have been married for more than 20 years and the couple has three children: Lauren, Lucas and Jenna.
