Progressive Conservative Member of the Legislature Sherry Wilson was elected September 27, 2010. She represents the constituency of Petitcodiac.
Ms. Wilson chairs the Standing Committee on Procedure; she is vice-chair of the Standing Committee on Legislative Officers and a member of the Standing Committee on Crown Corporations.
She was named Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Health November 5, 2010.
She grew up on a dairy farm in Intervale and attended schools in Petitcodiac. Following high school, she completed a business and secretarial course at Campbellton Community College.
Her career began at Hub Meat Packers in Moncton where she was the Credit Manager’s Assistant and after moving to Edmonton, Alberta, she worked at the University Hospital in Administration. After living in Edmonton for two years, she returned to Riverview and bought her own business in 1984. She has been a successful business owner for 26 years.
Always believing in commitment to community, she volunteered for the RCMP from 1991 to 1999 as Victim Services Coordinator. This work put her in touch with many people and brought her face-to-face with the many challenges facing families.
In 2002 and 2003, she was the President of the Downtown Riverview Business Association.
In 2004 she was elected to Riverview Town Council; she served as Deputy Mayor in 2005 and she was re-elected in 2008. She was the liaison councillor for finance, special projects, environmental strategies and tri council for the three municipalities. She sat on the Codiac Regional Policing Authority Board, the immigration board, the Finn committee, D.A.R.E and several others.
She has one son, Daniel, who operates his own business in Moncton, NB.
Ms. Wilson has been active in politics for many years.
