Yvon Bonenfant spent more than 15 years actively involved in provincial and federal politics. He served as chief of staff and constituency assistant to former Minister of Natural Resources and Minister of Finance Jeannot Volpé, as well as director of regional programs at the federal level. He was president of the Madawaska-les-Lacs Riding Association.

He was elected to represent Madawaska-les-Lacs in the September 27, 2010 provincial election. A Progressive Conservative Member, he sits on the Standing Committee on Crown Corporations and the Standing Committee on Privileges.

He was named Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries, responsible for agriculture November 5, 2010.

Mr. Bonenfant is currently a member of the Bureau of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF).

Originally from Lac Baker, Mr. Bonenfant is one of a family of seven children. His parents, Jeannine and Laurent, still live at Lac Baker.

He was also the commanding officer with Clair’s Air Cadets, serving in Squadron 836; he was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces for six years and a member of the Reserve. He is an insurance broker and also works in real estate.

Mr. Bonenfant is actively involved in his community where he volunteers, in particular, with the Canadian Cancer Society and the Relay for Life.
