David Alward is a bridge builder. The newly elected leader of the Progressive
Conservative Party of New Brunswick believes it is time to bring all New Brunswickers together to help New Brunswick future.
Born on December 2, 1959 in Beverly, Massachusetts, David Nathan Alward’s values and priorities in life are based on what he learned from his parents, the Reverend Ford and Mrs. Jean Alward. They also stem from the experiences he has had growing up in
New Brunswick and working with people creating jobs, as well as running a small, a family business and working as a community volunteer.
First elected to the New Brunswick Legislature on June 7, 1999 as the
Progressive Conservative MLA for Woodstock. He has served as MLA as both part of the Government Caucus and as a Member of the Opposition. In June of 2003 he was appointed Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Aquaculture. He currently serves as post-secondary education, training and labour critic, in addition to his duties as Leader of the Opposition.
David Alward has a vision of a united New Brunswick. He believes in bringing people together to include all communities, whether urban or rural, northern or southern, francophone and Anglophone, young or old.
He believes governance and policy should be of the people, by the people, and for the people. He believes New Brunswickers are ready to embrace common sense policies that lead to greater prosperity and economic growth for all our regions. He wants to improve our health care system with overall wellness and prevention as benchmarks. David also understands that we must work to improve our education opportunities and be responsible stewards for our environment and natural resources. He also believes in authentic tax reform, finding affordable energy solutions for future generations and securing our own food supply.
Elected Leader of the Opposition on October 18th, David is anxious to work with all members of the party in an exciting grassroots and democratic process that will see the people of New Brunswick formulate the policy and procedures of the Progressive Conservative Party platform. The hard work will come to fruition at the convention scheduled for the fall of 2009.
David Alward holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree and has also completed course work toward a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology. Mr. Alward and his wife, Rhonda, and sons Jonathan and Benjamin operate a small family farm in Riceville, N.B., where they raise purebred Hereford cattle and own and operate a small woodlot.
